# Field groups

Manage field groups

A **field group** is a container that holds one or more meta boxes and fields. Each group is assigned to one or more WordPress contexts — Custom Post Types, Taxonomies, Users, Option Pages, or Attachments — via [location rules](/meta-fields/the-meta-fields-manager/group-settings.md).

A single group can be shared across multiple contexts. For example, one group could appear on both a `movie` CPT and a `director` CPT.

Navigate to the field groups page.

From the main dashboard, you can:

* **Create a new group**
* **Update an existing group**
* **View the group's location rules**
* **Delete a registered group**

Deleting a group removes the ACPT configuration only. It does not delete any saved post metadata from the WordPress database.
